Active metal detectors find metals buried at medium depth
Active metal detectors operate on the principle of electromagnetic induction: When an emitted electromagnetic field meets a metal body, it sets off eddy currents – which in turn generate a secondary field that is used to locate the object. Metal detectors are well suited to the search for unexploded ordnance at shallow to medium depths.
